RAKU POTTERY TECHNIQUE
It is a fascinating and exciting technique that has its origins in 16th century Japan. It continues to bewitch, excite and amaze me, day after day: its charm lies in the moment in which I extract the incandescent object from the kiln (1000 °C/1832 °F) and I give it fire. It is a very delicate moment, in which I remain breathless, because in these few minutes my every action transforms the glaze and can change the final chromatic result dramatically. This is why each piece is unique and unrepeatable. The naked flame is used to create the decorative effects typical of Raku, such as metallic lustres in which the color fades from copper to violet to blue and green, and craklè which are a fanciful network of black marks covering the surface of the glaze.
Raku differs from traditional ceramics mainly for this last firing phase that takes place in a living flame, where fire, smoke, water, oxygen or the lack of oxygen come into play to create unique and unrepeatable chromatic effect.

This sushi set includes 2 soy sauce bowls, 2 chopstick rests and 2 sushi plates for 12 to 15 pieces (depending on size and presentation). I modeled this set by hand with red clay and then treated it with an ash glaze of my own recipe. The green set is decorated with a sgraphed floral motif, and the grey set was decorated using a brush.
Natural Stone Tones 6 Piece Sushi Set
Sushi set consists of 2 large plates, 2 dipping bowls, 2 curved rests, and 4 chopsticks. Each piece is made with hand cut pieces of glass that are fused in kiln and is 2 layers thick. The transparent pale gray stripes add accents to the natural stone tones and allows your tabletop to show through. Three kiln firings are required for the pieces to achieve the beautiful results. It is a unique, one-of-a-kind design is a perfect gift. It can be used for sushi, dessert, or a serving of your desire. It is food safe and dishwasher safe, although hand washing is recommended. Plate 9.75″x5.5″, bowl 3.5″x3.5″, rest 2″x1-1/4″ (approx).
