Spring is not all about pastels. The classical black and white color palette can be refreshing too just like how we designed this living room. A statement black wallpaper and a low-slung cloudy-white Bellini-inspired sofa set the tone for this modern living room–minimalist yet cozy and inviting thanks to the curved silhouettes, the sculptural forms and plush textures of the furnishings. The trims on the all-white pillows elevate the sofa with a contour look. The iconic waved floor backlit mirror is such a striking piece that serves as a functional art. Slonem’s framed rabbit brings in a sense of playfulness and a subtle pop of color. A hand-knotted rug anchors the space with a touch of luxury and underfoot comfort.

We love the texture and light blue of this hand-knotted rug which is made out of a blend of viscose and wool. The subtle geometric pattern is soft white still creating a movement. What’s more:

• 51% viscose and 43% wool, 5% cotton, 1% other fibers.
• Hand-knotted.
• Yarn-dyed. 
• .5″ pile height.
• Binded edges.
• Rotate your rug every 3-6 months to prevent excessive wear and sun exposure in one area.
• Do not pull on loose ends. Either tuck back or snip with scissors and knot ends.
• All wool rugs shed, but with proper care and treatment, most rugs stop shedding after 3-6 months.
• For best results, vacuum as needed in one direction (not back and forth) using suction only, as the bristles can damage your rug.
• Do not spot clean or use liquids of any kind as this will damage or discolor the rug.
• Avoid rubbing any stains, which can cause them to settle more deeply.
• If extra care is needed, send to a professional cleaner.
• To prolong the life of your rug, we recommend using a rug pad (sold separately).

Hunt Slonem

“I believe in repetition like a holy mantra or rosary,” neo-Expressionist painter Hunt Slonem told Introspective, referring to his artistic method. “I am slightly influenced by Pop art, like the repetition of soup cans, postage stamps and celebrities. It’s something I have been doing my whole life.”

Slonem, who often depicts birds, rendered in thick, gestural brushstrokes and arranged in a loose grid, developed his fascination with tropical avian life during a childhood spent in Hawaii and Nicaragua. Today, his 30,000-square-foot studio in Brooklyn contains an aviary, along with a personal garden, a collection of antiques and walls and walls of artworks.

Besides birds, Slonem also paints bunnies — so many that they’ve become a signature. Limned in expressive, urgent strokes on flat, vibrantly colored backgrounds, these creatures fascinate through their subtle variations. “I have painted hundreds of rabbits, but each one is different,” the artist has explained. “Each has its own personality, and it just comes through me.”
