This entry we designed is inspired by the striking circular wallpaper in cheerful peach color. The design pattern on the wallpaper plays with scale and gravity creating a stripe effect that is perfect for any entry that is designed to impress the guests. The striking wallpaper also provides a perfect backdrop for a dark clean-lined coco console table with a reeded base. The curves on the console table and the circular on the wallpaper create a warm and harmonious feeling. The vintage green hues, the blush on the boucle curved sofa and various green hues and white combo in the classical checkered wallpaper is the color palette we chose for this modern living room for a light, airy and soft interior. The curved blush sectional floating in the middle of the space anchors the room with its sculptural, feminine and statement-making gesture while the Victoria fireplace mantle, the brass chandelier and the checkered pattern on the wallpaper bring in a touch of timelessness and old-world charm. The serpentine breakfront shelf above a fielded freeze centered by a central shell echoed by shell decorated endblocks which sit above angled, paneled jamb on sturdy footblocks. “Margit Wittig has used her sculptural skills to create beautifully-crafted, well-proportioned candlesticks, which are compositions of her unique signature pearl-shaped designs. Each candlestick begins as hand-sculpted spheres which are used to create moulds in three sizes. Margit refers to these finished spheres as pearls. These highly original, eye-catching candlesticks come in three different sizes depending on the number of pearls: three, five and seven. The candlesticks are cast in resin and Jesmonite mixed with pigment at the start of the process, to ensure colour consistency. Some of the candlesticks are subtly finished with hand painted gold patina to reflect the shimmer of the candle. Spring is not all about pastels. The classical black and white color palette can be refreshing too just like how we designed this living room. A statement black wallpaper and a low-slung cloudy-white Bellini-inspired sofa set the tone for this modern living room–minimalist yet cozy and inviting thanks to the curved silhouettes, the sculptural forms and plush textures of the furnishings. The trims on the all-white pillows elevate the sofa with a contour look. The iconic waved floor backlit mirror is such a striking piece that serves as a functional art. Slonem, who often depicts birds, rendered in thick, gestural brushstrokes and arranged in a loose grid, developed his fascination with tropical avian life during a childhood spent in Hawaii and Nicaragua. Today, his 30,000-square-foot studio in Brooklyn contains an aviary, along with a personal garden, a collection of antiques and walls and walls of artworks.
Besides birds, Slonem also paints bunnies — so many that they’ve become a signature. Limned in expressive, urgent strokes on flat, vibrantly colored backgrounds, these creatures fascinate through their subtle variations. “I have painted hundreds of rabbits, but each one is different,” the artist has explained. “Each has its own personality, and it just comes through me.”
